- Be strict on yourself
- Build up a staples pantry
- Buy in bulk or based on the best per unit price you can find
- Make things from scratch
- Know what you buy on a regular basis and stock up when on special
- Keep supermarket receipts and if there is a mistake go back to them, as everything adds up
- Have some low spend weeks / months – Challenge yourself to make do with what you have got
- Make extra each time you are cooking – freeze for future use
- Stop buying convenience items – Make it yourself
- Buy everything in season and Preserve or Freeze for other times
- Plan, Plan and Plan – Plan meals, Plan shopping trips, research the best buys available
- Use online shopping as a way to stick to your budget (reduces impulse buying)
- Keep away from processed foods / processed food aisle
- Buy in 3’s – If something is on special buy 3 of them and stock up, and again when you see that item on special again
- Use cash – you are more likely to stick to your budget
